It costs $x for four adults' tickets. A child's ticket costs $3 less than an adult's ticket. On family night, all the tickers go for half price. Develop a formula in terms of x to calculate how much it will cost for a family of 2 adults and 3 children on family night.

OpenStudy (debbieg):

You have x= regular adult ticket price. What's an expression for the regular child's ticket price?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would it be x-$3? Though x is the cost of 4 adult tickets so it would be x/4 right?

OpenStudy (debbieg):

Yes, the regular child's ticket is x-3. I'm not sure what you mean by the other part of your statement. Hold on, one step at a time. :) So regular adult price =x, regular child price = x-3. Now, what are expressions for the adult price, and the child price, on family night?

OpenStudy (debbieg):

Once you have those, then you need an expression for the total cost of 2 adults and 3 children, so add them up: cost = 2(adult family night price) + 3(children family night price) Then just do any simplification that you can.
