please help! Find the coordinates of the other endpoint when you are given the midpoint (point M) and one of the endpoints (point P). P = (3, 5) and M =(-2, 0) -(1/2, 5/2) -(-1, -5) -(-7, -5)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can set up equations if you'd like.... (3+x)/2 = -2 and solve. The midpoint is basically the average of the end points. The x's averaged and the y's averaged. This is where I come up with the equation. OR... easier. It takes 5 units to get from 3 to -2. Repeat going the same "direction"... in this case negatively. 5 more from -2 is -7. Repeat for the y's. It's also 5 to get from 5 to 0, 5 more in the negative direction in this case as well... will give you -5. So (-7, -5).
