3(2y–1)=-2(y +2)

OpenStudy (abb0t):

are you being asked to solve for \(y\)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hello yes I am

OpenStudy (abb0t):

You have to be more specific next time, there are a lot of things you can do with a function in mathematics.

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Anyways, I will walk you through this problem, ok?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, i'm in my 2nd week of algebra

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Still learning

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Congrats. Anyways this is how you begin. Do you remember your properties from pre-algebra? Distributive property per say? What you're going to be doing here is distributing the \(3\) and the \(2\) OUTSIDE the parenthesis INTO the parenthesis. So you have: 3(2y-1) remember distributive property says: a(b+c) = ab + ac also for the other side (right hand side). you have: -2(y+2) same: -a(b+c) = -ab-ac Now you try it for bOTH SIDES
