Is there another way to solve this proportion problem y – 1 = -3 x + 3 4 4(y - 1) = -3(x+3) The result of cross multiplying. 4y – 4 = -3x - 9 Distribute 4 on the left and -3 on the right. 4y – 4 + 4 = -3x – 9 +4 add 4 from both sides 4y =-3x- 5 Divide both sides by 4 4 4 y= -3x - 5 or y =-3x-5 4 4

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

I don't think I see "this proportion problem"

OpenStudy (phi):

it looks ok, until the last line \[ y= - \frac{3}{4}x- \frac{5}{4} \] that is ok. but that is as far as you can go. You can not drop the divide by 4's
