Factor x^3 +27?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

scary titan.. use formula a^3 + b^3 = (a + b)(a^2 – ab + b^2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^3+27 is the same as x^3 + 3^3, so: (x+3)(x^2-3x+9)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would it be (x^2+9)(x+3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Never mind

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm confused on how you got that answer.

OpenStudy (debbieg):

There are some special formulas for factoring sums/differences of cubes. \[\Large a^3 – b^3 = (a – b)(a^2 + ab + b^2)\] \[\Large a^3 + b^3 = (a + b)(a^2 – ab + b^2) \]

OpenStudy (debbieg):

So just figure out what your a is and your b is, and then plug & chug in the formula. Here, you have \(\Large x^3+27=x^3+3^3\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol dude, I told you I was correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Factoring is my best skill. (x + 3)(x^2 - 3x + 9)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not understanding how you are getting the answer though.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you read what Debbie said, you can make 27 into 3^3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which does affect the factors of this equation to what it looks like.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(x^2+9)(x+3) = x^3 + 9 + 27. That's why that's NOT CORRECT.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

With the answer you give me the (x's and 3x^2's cancel each other.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*9x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you even know how you factor? If you do, work out the answer you believe to be correct. Lol.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol, where did you get 9x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can factor really simple problems but I have never factored a problem with x^3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^3 = x * x * x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^3-3x^2+9x+3x^2-9x+27

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And the 27=3^3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol okay look, you factored wrong. and Why are you wasting time on factors that don't even equal your answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm just really confused.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4 people have given you the SAME answer, so you should just put that as your answer and watch it be correct. Lol.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm wanting to know how to do it though.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol. This is a essay question, aint it? Then your gonna copy and paste what I write as your answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

With all the information already on this question, you can do it yourself.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's not. I'm just wanting to understand how to solve it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Read what everyone else put. Then you will UNDERSTAND! (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mk

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you have the formula a^3 + b^3 = (a + b)(a^2 – ab + b^2) So plug in these values a= x b=3 then that is simply the answer
