in of Mice and men how do characters respond to discrimination, and how does it affect their lives, and the outcome of the story?

OpenStudy (artsy_brian):

If you have analyzed the context of the story i'm sure the next questions that i will give you will help you answer what you're looking for :) we have different types of discrimination in the story, racism, roles, and age Leny's action: how does Lenny's action causes George to respond? Crook: How is Crook affected by the isolation due to his color? Curley's wife:What are the true feelings of Curley's wife over her husband's choice of leaving her isolated from other men that caused her final outcome? Candy: How is Candy treated and seem by others due to his age, and what are the thoughts he has to help him get a life without judgement? The discrimination of all these characters caused them to play an important role that leads to the surprising outcome. Haven't read the book in years but still is impressive due to what's perceived throughout it. Hope these questions can help you :)

You must think of this in relation to their situation. Lennie is mentally ill and is would be discriminated against if not for George. Think about what would happen, at that point in time Lennie would have been sent to a mental institution. That would not have helped him at all. Crooks is very much an introvert and seen as cranky and hateful because everyone sees him for his color. Candy is elderly and seen as useless. Hence the reason he did not want to put down his dog was because they saw the dog as useless. He took that to mean when he was considered of no worth they would put him down as well. Curley's wife wanted attention and to be a show girl. Instead she ended up with Curley who is spoiled and abusive. So to deceive Curley and make him angry she turns to provoking the farm hands. With these descriptions you should be able to deduce your answer. I hoped this helped!
