Solving Equations with Fractions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ 4 }{ 5 }x+2=22\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The equation didn't come out right from my p.o.v but I could guess it was: 4/5x + 2 = 22?

YEA!!! what i'm confused about is if you use multiply both sideds by 4/5 or by 4/5x or subtract 2?????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When multiplying with fractions you only multiply both sides by the DENOMINATOR so in this case: 5, but that's not all you have to multiply EVERYTHING in the equation by 5 not just both sides like you sometimes do.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(5)4/5x + (5)2 = 22(5) 20/5x + 10 = 110 Now you simplify the 20/5 giving you 4, rewrite the equation: 4x + 10 = 110 Subtract both sides by 10: 4x=100 And divide by 4: x=25
