Solve for x: x^2=4x

OpenStudy (psymon):

First thing to do is set everything equal to 0 by moving 4xto the other side of the equation. This gives you: x^2 - 4x = 0. Now you need to be able to factor this. Do you know how to?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No can you give me the steps after that

OpenStudy (psymon):

Well when you get these problems there's usually some way to factor what you have once you set everything equal to zero. So you need to look for the largest number that can be factored out of the terms you have and the largest power of x that you can factor out.

So is the answer: 0 and 4

OpenStudy (psymon):

Right. Because the only thing that can be factored out is an x to the first power, giving you: x(x-4) = 0. Then you set each factor you have equal to 0 x = 0 x-4 = 0. So yes, 0 and 4, good job :3

Thank you for your help :)

Of course ^_^
