when you solve a problem using the scientific method, why must you have a hypothesis before you do the experiment?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its just to basically see if you were right or wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A hypothesis is often used as a starting point to define the scope and objectivity of performing an experiment. A hypothesis is a statement that implies there is insufficient evidence to support an idea or an explanation of an observation or principle. It is a statement of unproven fact, sometimes just a guess that is tentatively accepted as a basis or foundation for further investigation. If a hypothesis is proven to be correct beyond reasonable doubt, it becomes a theory and is generally accepted by the scientific community.

Did that help you??

Your welcome

Because otherwise what would you be verifying/testing? Also note that the hypothesis is not only for discovery/theory checking purposes but for safety as well!

thank you very much @amandasoto144
