What is the solution of |-1+x| = 5?
Do the lines change how to do the problems? I think they have something to do with absolute value.

I thought it would be x=6
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Absolute value means that everything it will always be a positive number in the lines.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
everything will*
OpenStudy (bruno102):
so, -1 is not -1
OpenStudy (bruno102):
would it be 6, -4?

Not exactly. You would first solve what is in the Absolute Value Lines. Then, if you are left with a negative number, you know it is going to be positive. Not negative. But the answer to this is 6.
OpenStudy (bruno102):
so it is just 6 not 6, -4
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Correct. The answer is 6.
OpenStudy (bruno102):
Oh ok that's funny, because in the lesson it shows 6,-4 as the answer (practice question) I was asking because I wanted to learn how to do the problem...
OpenStudy (anonymous):
That would be because they are asking for two answers.
