Simplify (3x^2 + 2x + 1) + (5x +3). Could someone walk me through how to do this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3x^2 +2x +1 + 5x + 3 You have 2x and 5x as like terms so they both become 7x So now you have 3x^2 + 7x + 1 + 3 1 and 3 go together, they become 4 So now you have 3x^2 +7x + 4 Now you need to factor it. (3x+4)(x+1) How do I factor that? 3 and 4 become 7. Right? So 3x and x are 3x^2 and 3x + 1 = 3x. And then 4x stays 4x and 4 x 1 becomes 4. So now you have: 3x^2 + 3x + 4x +4, which is 3x^2 + 7x +4 That is your result.

(3x^2 + 2x + 1) + (5x +3) just add like terms 3x^2 + 7x +4

Thank you both!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem! :)

It said simplify btw. I dont think you have to factor.

Oh okay, in case if factoring is needed I just put that up there.
