Just started calculus. I have a limits question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\lim_{x \rightarrow 0^{+}} \] int x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it's the limit as x approaches zero from the right of "int x". i assume this means "any integer x" or something similar, but this is all the problem says and i haven't a clue where to go from here.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the "integer value of a real number x" is a step function

OpenStudy (amistre64):

int (5.675923) = 5 int (0.367923) = 0 etc

OpenStudy (amistre64):

as you approach x=0 from the right side .. what do you spose it limits to? int (0.9999) = 0 int (0.00934646) = 0 int (0.000000324934) = 0 int (0.0000...01) = 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so if you approach from the left, it'd also be zero?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

lets make sure the function is correctly defined first :)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

http://mathworld.wolfram.com/IntegerPart.html yes, from the left is 0 as well

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh wow! i wish my teacher had shown me that picture. all right, thank you!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

:) good luck
