Y=x^4-25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you need? Factoring or solving or graphing?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I need to find the x and y intercepts

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did you graph it yet? https://www.desmos.com/calculator

OpenStudy (e.cociuba):

x-intercept means y = 0, and y-intercept means x = 0. so just substitute and solve: 0 = x^4 - 25 0 = (x^2 + 5)(x^2 - 5) 0 = (x + i√(5))(x - i√(5))(x + x√(5))(x - √(5)) so x-intercept are ±√(5) and ±i√(5)) and y = (0)^4 - 25 y = -25 so y-intercept = -25

You can also do it visually by graphing it, and seeing where it intersect the x and y axis but you would only find the y intercept with this one.

OpenStudy (e.cociuba):

Yup, she could have done it using a graphing calculator. It's the "simpler" way.
