OpenStudy (rasperrystumper):

write a word phrase for the algebraic expression 3x - 7

OpenStudy (rob1525):

seven less than 3 times x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

three x minus seven?

OpenStudy (rasperrystumper):

does anyone know for SURE

OpenStudy (psymon):

I would expect them to want something more formal, but there are tons of ways to say it. You could say "seven less than the product of 3 and a number."

OpenStudy (rob1525):

there are many ways to write it lolz

OpenStudy (rasperrystumper):

I have options let me write them down

OpenStudy (psymon):

Okay, now that helps, lol. Otherwise we could guess forever and ALL of us could be correct xD

OpenStudy (rasperrystumper):

1. the differnece of 3 times a number x and seven

OpenStudy (rasperrystumper):

2. the differnce of seven and three times a number

OpenStudy (psymon):

Difference of means you put a minus sign in between the two things you said in order. Difference of a and b = a - b So like option 2, the first thing said is 7, the 2nd thing said is 3x. So number 2 is wrongbecause that means 7 - 3x

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

"Steve" From now on, whenever anyone write "Steve", we should all take it to mean "3x-7".
