for my experiment, i am finding out if dding sugar to water changes the thickness and stickiness. my material are measurg cup water, sugar, spoon, microwave. i conducted 3 experiments i mixed sugar in col, warm, then hot water to see the difference. i was just wondering what are ym dependant, control, and independant variable in my procedure?

Take a guess what do you think it is. If you are adding stuff, that means that you are changing it. What is making it change?

If you don't change it, then it is controlled. In this case, the water is controlled.

and the sugar?

No! Because you're adding it to the water! You're changing the amount of sugar in the experiment. If you left the same amount of sugar and kept adding water, then water would be independent and sugar would be controlled! The sugar itself is part of the experiment. Do not think of the materials. you cant change the shape of the cup, but it is not part of the experiment, doesn't mean it's a control. You're only referring to the experiment itself. Or the spoon you used to stirr. Just because the spoon doesnt change, does not make it a control.

yeah but im not changing the sugar amount in all 3 trials im adding the same amount of sugar and water. the only thing im changing is the water temperature

Then the temperature would be the independent variable. Viscosity would be the dependent because that's what you're testing for

what would the water and sugar be then?

I would say temperature is not the independent variable but the temperature of the water. I guess, the amount of sugar would be control because it's fixed. Though, when i think of control i think of a trial in which the outcome expected is known, to test for deviations with the apparatus, or other things you can't account for.
