wha is the solution to 2x-6y=7

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

This is an equation of 2 variables - you cannot simply solve for x and y, but you can express x as a function of y or y as a function of x. Are you trying to solve for x, or for y?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for x

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

Okay - with any equation with only x you always try to isolate the variable first. since x(and not y) is your variable, what do you think you should do first?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solve for x I the solution is x=3y+7

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

ah - you are forgetting to divide the 7 by 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yeah; it's x=3y+7/2

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

yup :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is a linear equation: so 2x-6y=7 5x+2y=10
