what does it mean for an ordered pair of numbers to be a solution to an equation

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

say we have the equation y = 2x+2 then (2,6) is a solution to the equation x = 2, y = 6 notice if we let x = 2 we have y = 2*2+2 = 6

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

so an ordered pair is a solution if when you plug in the values for their respective variables we are left with a true statement

thank you zzr0ck3r!
