when using synthetic division if you have a remainder then the tested root cant be a factor, correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correct

OpenStudy (psymon):

Yes, if a remainder happens then that value is not a zero.

OpenStudy (psymon):

When using long division, synthetic division, either, the remainder means it is not a zero. Think of it this way. If I do 25/6, I get 4 and 1/6. Because I have a remainder, we can not say 6 is a factor of 25. Same idea with polynomials.
