Y=(1/x-1), x=3 Find the slope of the curve at the point indicated. ???

OpenStudy (abb0t):

You can take the derivative of the given function using both quotient and product rule. Then, plug in x=3

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Are you familiar with derivatives @traviswayne12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you have to do this by hand? perhaps you have not gotten to the shortcut ways of taking a derivative

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm in Calc 1, so it's still kinda new to me.

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Well, there are two methods. you can simply use your derivative rules to find this slope, or you can use limits: \[\lim_{h \rightarrow 0} \frac{ f(x+h)-f(x) }{ h }\]
