If a ball is thrown straight up into the air, what is its acceleration as it moves upward? What is its acceleration when it reaches its highest point and is stopped at an instant?

The only acceleration acting on the ball once it leaves the thrower's hand is gravity. Therefore at the highest point where the ball is momentarily stopped the acceleration is still g.
