x-5=16 x=21 x=sqrt(21)

OpenStudy (swag):

A & B are both 21 but I don't understand what it means at the end

OpenStudy (alienium):

me too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you do realize this is in the wrong subject right @SWAG?

OpenStudy (swag):

I just realized -_____________________-

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Nice job man

OpenStudy (swag):

Can anyone finish helping me though

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

An extraneous solution is a solution that doesn't work btw it's not sqrt{21}

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

It's just 21

OpenStudy (zale101):

\[\sqrt{x+2}=11\] \[\sqrt{x}=9\] \[x=81\]

OpenStudy (zale101):

think it's 81 , not 21

OpenStudy (zale101):

oh i subtracted 2 from both sides

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

uh, what zale? You doubting my math skills?

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

OpenStudy (zale101):

i think so @Luigi0210 :-)

OpenStudy (zale101):

like luigi said, an extraneous solution is the solution that doesn't work. For example, if u come up with an answer where u can't divide by zero, the solution is extraneous. But the answer to your question is not extraneous, it's a solution.
