give me an example of a unit rate used in a real world sutuation

OpenStudy (austinl):

A rate is a ratio that is used to compare different kinds of quantities. A unit rate describes how many units of the first type of quantity corresponds to one unit of the second type of quantity. Some common unit rates are miles (or kilometers) per hour, cost per item, earnings per week, etc. In each case the first quantity is related to 1 unit of the second quantity.

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

There are plenty of these scenarios. For example, when you go to Costco, there is often a unit rate for the cost. Ex: amount of cost / amount of product. Also, miles per gallon is another real life unit rate :)

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

Does this make sense @kandy44 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ummmmmmmmm im not quiet sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

um im asking u got to make a unite rate

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

So remember that unit rates are like how many different things for one, for example, Miles per hour is a unit rate, and miles per gallon are unit rates. They are used in real life when determining if a car is good with gas mileage and also, miles per hour is used by policemen to figure out how fast you are going and whether or not you should get a ticket or not :P

im asking to make a unite rate

OpenStudy (austinl):

We have given you tons of examples of unit rates.

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

oh well then that is simple. A unit rate is merely a ratio over two things, with the denominator being one, usually. like for example,.miles per gallon, 64 miles/1 gallon is a unit rate, with 64 miles in the numerator and 1 gallon in the denominator.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i mean like make one up and put numbers and other stuff like that

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

I just made one up XD so \(\Large\frac{64~miles}{1~gallon}\) say this is the theoretical gas mpg of a car. This is a unit rate that represents that the car can go a distance of 64 miles on 1 gallon of fuel. That is a unit rate that I just made up as an example, plugging in the numbers 64 and 1 to fill in the units

ok thx a lot

closeing it
