I have a medium and a large pizza. The medium pizza has a diameter of 13 1/2 inches and is $7.99, while the large pizza has a diameter of 16 1/4 inches and is 9.99. 1. How do I figure out how many square inches are in each pizza? 2. How do I figure out the price per square inch?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well, a Pizza is a circular figure, thus, the Area of a Circle is \(\bf \large \pi r^2\) r = radius radius is 1/2 diameter The Area will give you square inches, to get how much per square inch, well \(\bf \cfrac{\textit{total }in^2, \textit{that is Area}}{\textit{price of the pizza}}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1. You divide the diameter by 2 to get the radius so you can use the circle area formula. \[A=\pi r^2 \] 2. In order to get the price per square inch, you need to divide price of the pizza by its area.

ok. sweet. thank you both!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Make sure to divide the price by the area and not the other way around. You were asked for the price per square inch, not the square inch per price.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ah, thank you. I was just wondering about that.
