it looks ok so your good it think
OpenStudy (anonymous):
might want ot double chekc number 3
OpenStudy (anonymous):
and number 4
OpenStudy (anonymous):
absolute values can be broken up into 2 equations
\[|x| = n\]
is the equivalent of
\[x=n \]
and
\[-(x)= n\]

Okay checking now
OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):
So for #3 I should put this as the answer?
Y = 3
Y = -3
?
OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):
Same thing for #4?
S <= 3
S <= -3
?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
\[\frac{|3s-4|}{2} \le 2.5\]
\[{|3s-4|} \le 5\]
2 inequalities
\[3s-4 \le 5\]
and
\[-(3s-4)\le 5\]
solve for both
OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):
First one is
s <= 3
and the second one
s => -1/3
Is that correct?

by the looks of it
OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):
AWesome c: Was #3 right?
OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):
@completeidiot
OpenStudy (anonymous):
nope
try substituting -3 into the equation
OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):
My revised answer was wrong or the original?

OpenStudy (anonymous):
there's a revised answer?
OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):
Yes I said
Y = 3
Y = -3
OpenStudy (anonymous):
like i said, try plugging both those solutions in and see if it makes the equation true
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i will say this,
10 is definitely not equal to 12
OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):
Well its not 3 and its not 2, is it a fraction?

OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):
wait is it 4 and -4?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
SIGHHH
stop guessing and just solve it...
OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):
I'm trying to solve it but nothing is working
OpenStudy (anonymous):
5+ |2y+1|=12
subtract 5 from both sides
|2y+1| = 7
now break up the absolute value into 2 equations
2y+1 = 7
&
-(2y+1)=7
now solve for both y
OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):
2y + 1 = 7
-1 -1
2y = 6
divide 2 divide 2
y = 3
-(2y + 1) = 7
-2y - 1 = 7
+ 1 +1
-2y = 8
divide by -2 divide by -2
y = -4
So the answer is y = 3 and y = -4?
