Factor completely. 49x2 - 9

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Welcome to openstudy :) Do you know this is the difference of perfect squares case?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(x+3/7)(x-3/7)

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Stop giving away wrong answers.. even if it is the wrong one.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That is the wrong answer, the only way for her to do it is to multiply 49 times 9 which is 441 then take the square root of that which is 21 so it would be (x+21)(x-21) and since she would multiply she would have to divide what she mulitplied by and 21/49 is 3/7 which is (x+3/7) times (x-3/7)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and if your going to help someone give them the answer thenshow them how to do it its 11 a.m no one wants to go back and forth with questions. Clearly they dont know how to do squares if they couldn't do the problem they need help.

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Ha, uh.. no. There's this thing called the Code of Conduct that you follow. Have you read it? It might help you from getting banned from the site. And your answer is still wrong.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well she can decide whos wrong or right .

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Well let's see, if we factor what you gave we get this: \[x^2-\frac{9}{49}\]

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

*distribute not factor

OpenStudy (kenljw):

49x2 - 9 (7x)^2 - 3^2 (7x + 3) (7x-3) 49 (x + 7/3) (x - 3/7)

OpenStudy (kenljw):

49 (x +3/7) (x - 3/7)

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

You guys make everything so complicated.

OpenStudy (kenljw):

The 49 out side of quadratic is significant

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Wouldn't it just be easier to say: (7x-3)(7x+3)? -_-

OpenStudy (kenljw):

you could but usually I make x coefficient 1, much easier to solve

OpenStudy (kenljw):

esp. in programing

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

why not just make it easy since it is the difference of 2 squares... \[(7x - 3)(7x + 3) =49x^2 - 9\]

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

it problem is more about identifying perfect squares than anything else.
