What is the difference between "results support" and "fail to support" in a scientific investigation?

If the results presented (whether straight statistics, graphs or tables etc) help to support the hypothesis. 

for example: If there are lots of good results that suggest "Females are smarter" and the hypothesis is that "females are smarter" then the *results support*

However if the hypothesis is "females are smarter" but there are little or no supporting results/ the results don't really suggest anything related to females being smarter-> then they *fail to support*
