@ganeshie8 @Yttrium Dewayne is comparing two checking accounts. One has a monthly fee of $7 and a per-check fee of $0.30, and the other has a monthly fee of $4 and a per-check fee of $0.40. What is the minimum number of checks Dewayne needs to write for the first bank to be a better option? A. 29 B. 30 C. 31 D. 28

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

setup an inequality

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

say she writes \(x\) checks, first bank charges her : 7 + 0.3x -------------------(1)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

can u setup how much second bank charges her, if she writes \(x\) checks ?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

Yo ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im confused

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

it is better if u can *see* this on ur own, my explanation wil make u more confuse

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

basically, we want to express how much each bank charges mathically ive already setup how much first bank charges for you, see if u can setup an expression for 2nd bank

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok ill try

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

good :)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

we just need to stare at below line in the question :- the other has a monthly fee of $4 and a per-check fee of $0.40.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

they're charging $4 flat, and per check they're charging $0.40 so, if she writes \(x\) checks, this bank charges her : 4 + .4x -------------(2)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

see if both expressions make sense, rest is bit easy i promise :)
