Algebra Slope and intercept help?

OpenStudy (accidentalaichan):

OpenStudy (accidentalaichan):

1. Identify the slope and the y-intercept of the first equation. Describe how to graph this using the slope-intercept method.

OpenStudy (accidentalaichan):

How do I do this?

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Well do you know the slope and what a y-intercept is?

OpenStudy (accidentalaichan):

I think the slope is the rate?

OpenStudy (accidentalaichan):

and the Y intercept is the variable that goes on the Y axis?

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

yup, slope in the equation: y=mx+b is "m" \[m=\frac{y_{2}-y_{1}}{x_{2}-x_{1}} =\frac{rise}{run}\]

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Y-intercept is when x=0

OpenStudy (accidentalaichan):

Okay :3 How can I solve for this with a fraction in the equation?

OpenStudy (accidentalaichan):

do I convert it into a decimal?

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Well since it's a negative, the slope is negative. \[-\frac{3}{2}=\frac{rise}{run}\] Instead of going up 3, you go down 3 and over 2

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

And sorry, I know i'm an awful teacher >.<
