OpenStudy (yacoub1993):

What are the solutions of the compound inequality? Graph the solutions. –2 < 4x – 10 < 6 A. 4 < x < 12 B. -3 < x < -1 C. –16 < x < –8 D. 2 < x < 4

OpenStudy (yacoub1993):

@Directrix i have no idea how to do this question any help

OpenStudy (yacoub1993):

here is the way i got it and it is wrong

OpenStudy (yacoub1993):

-2 < 4x -10 < 6 -2 < 4x < 6 + 10 -2 <4x < 16 -2 < x <16/4 -2 < x < 4

OpenStudy (yacoub1993):

and i am sure i am wrong i guess

Directrix (directrix):

Let me see how my work goes: –2 < 4x – 10 < 6 Add 10 -2 + 10 < 4x - 10 + 10 < 6 + 10 -------------------------------------------- 8 < 4x < 16

OpenStudy (yacoub1993):

i still didnt get the use of adding 10

Directrix (directrix):

I have not finished the problem. Just stopped so that you could read what I have so far.

Directrix (directrix):

The object of this problem is to take the "4x – 10" and legitimately make it be just a single x. So, the first thing to do is to add 10 to all three components of the problem. Then, there will be a 4x which must become just a single x.

OpenStudy (yacoub1993):

yes i get it then

Directrix (directrix):

Picking up from there, all three components must be divided by 4. 8 < 4x < 16 8/4 < 4x/4 < 16/4 2 < x < 4 Is that one of the options?

OpenStudy (yacoub1993):

yes it is the last option D

OpenStudy (yacoub1993):

thank you... u should be our school teacher loll.....

Directrix (directrix):

You are welcome.
