3 socialproblems from the industrial age? I know one of them was child labour. i need two more please!
1) Workers were overworked for little pay, 2) factory work was dangerous
I'm not sure child labor of the time was really in error even though six year olds sometimes worked 10 - 14 hour days. The process of the time could be considered "on the job training" because there was lack of any real educational system. The conditions they worked under was the same as their parents, sort like when working on a farm the child would work along with their parents 12-16 hour days. Farm children today still do, you can be 7-8 years old and drive a tracker, do planting, harvesting. and take care of animals. Of course this now occurs after school, weekends, and summers. Does modern society consider this wrong?
Thanks so much @KenLJW ! Yet i do believe that child labour back then was more of an abusive then training. Many children were worked to death and didnt receive the education they wanted! They should have had a choice between the two.
How can you call treating children the same way you treat adults abuse? Life at time didn't allow for choice, you did what was required to survive and only the elite really had choice. Even life today only gives the illusion of choice, one does what required in society to survive and their are few that really have the ability to rise above the station their born into. They say there's no aristocracy in the US but this is not true and never has been. Since the beginning the wealthier were able to educate their offspring and friends which allowed them to maintain their wealth and power. Yes the populace is becoming more educated, but the power elite remain and real choice is only a illusion because society determines what's of value and the elite determines that. There are success stories of those who rose out of ordinary but they are few and with increased competition of the educated they'll be even fewer. Education is not a panacea and can not replace people's values or what they value regardless of what society say's.
