What mekaprasantho described is pharmacokinetics. Pharmacodynamics describes how a certain drug interacts with it's target (e.g. receptors). These interactions are highly variable, depending on what the drug is. It can be something as simple as an antacid, which neutralizes acid in your stomach (i.e. simple acid-base reaction), or more complex, like chemotherapeutic drugs, e.g. oxaliplatin, which bind to DNA (at N of guanine bases) and block the molecular machinery (e.g. helicase, topoisomerase) from completing DNA replication successfully and the cell proceeds with apoptosis.
