A bullet fired from a rifle begins to fall as soon as it leaves the barrel. after air friction reduces its speed. not at all if air resistance is ignored.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ganeshie8 I have stuck on this for days and dont understand the concept at all

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have been*

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

gravity pulls everything down

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

when the bullet is inside rifle, the inter molecular forces of rifle are stopping the bullet from falling down

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then wouldnt gravity be pulling it down while it being in the rifle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

^ above reply

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

i think u get the idea :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im sorry I dont understand

OpenStudy (anonymous):

gravity pulls things down

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but I dont understand at what point would the bullet be falling, if its not in the rifle is has to be once it leaves it..right?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

ok, answer me this

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

gravity is pulling that ball down, but its staying on that table. how ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

bc there is a force pushing it up

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

yup, the tension in the feet is pushing it up.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

therefore not all air resistance is ignored? bc air resistance is a force right?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

if we go microscopically, we will understand that, there are some inter-molecular forces acting on the solid table, keeping it rigid. and not allowing to gravity to pull the ball down

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

A bullet fired from a rifle begins to fall as soon as it leaves the barrel.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

as soon as the bullet leaves rifle, the counter force is GONE ! so gravity wins ! and the bullet keeps falling down slowly, inch by inch...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh so anything in the air is pulled down by gravity bc there is no opposite force pulling it back?
