What trig function am I looking for here? Sin, Cos, or Tan? (See Attachment)

OpenStudy (psymon):

Depends on which of the missing sides you want to find.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It simple says solve the triangle. The previous questions I solved all the missing angles and sides.

OpenStudy (psymon):

Alrighty. So in regards to the angle, do you know which side the 22.6 is?

OpenStudy (psymon):

The hypotenuse is always straight across from the right angle, so its not the hypotenuse.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh that would be the opposite, my mistake.

OpenStudy (psymon):

Right. So now we need to use a trig function that includes the opposite side. That means we cannot use cosine because cosine is adjacent/hypotenuse. So for now, you can choose sin or tangent to get us one of the missing angles.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lets use sin. so o/h

OpenStudy (psymon):

Right. So we would have sin62 = 22.6/x where x is the missing side of the hypotenuse. You okay solving for that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sin62= 22.6/62 (skipping the work)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x= 22.6/62 is the setup correct?

OpenStudy (psymon):

divided by sin62, not just 62.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes sin62. I'm good now, thank you!

OpenStudy (psymon):

Alright, cool xD
