ah

p + n = 57 --> n = 57 - p .01p + .05n = 1.85 now sub 57 - p in for n in the 2nd equation and you will find how many pennies thee are.

typo..*there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you put say \(x\) as the number of pennies, then since the total is 57 coins that means the number of nickels is \(57-x\) then since each nickel is worth 5 cents the total amount of money is \[x+5(57-x)\] which you know is \(185\) cents solve \[x+5(57-x)=185\] for \(x\)
