if any number is even then it is, by definition, divisible by 2 to be prime a number must only be divisible by itself and 1 so the only even prime number is ?

To figure out if a number is prime, figure out what numbers can be multiplied to equal that number. A number is prime ONLY if the only number that can be multiplied to get the answer are your number and 1. For example: 13 * 1= 13 and no other number can be multiplied together to equal 13, therefore 13 is a prime number. All even number 2, 4, 6, .... Are divisible by 2. That means that for every even number, some number can be multiplied by 2 to get that number. Almost no prime numbers are even. 1 * 1= 1 so one is prime. 2 * 1 = 2, so 2 is prime. 3 * 1 = 3, so 3 is prime. 4 * 1 = 4 AND 2 * 2 = 4, so 4 is not prime.

1 is not considered a prime number. A prime number is a natural number that has exactly two (different) factors, 1 and itself. The first several prime numbers are: 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23, 29
