For 2x - 3y = -10, when x = 4, What is the value of y?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2(4)-3y=-10 So 2(4)=8, then 8-3y=-10 Move the 8 to the other side by subtracting it from both sides. Now you have -3y=-18 Divide by -3 on both sides. Now you should get y=6

Do you see how I got that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, All you have to do is add in the x=4 to the equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, simply replace the x with the 4 and then by order of operations, you clear the brackets first. So multiply 2(4) which = 8 then move the 8 to the other side of the = and then divide by your y value on both sides.

Had no idea it was that simple, Thank you so much!

No problem! I have been known to do the same thing. I get the hard ones easily and the easy ones catch me up. And I'm in college lol! Have a good night! =)
