Can someone help with a geometry question? (pic. included)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is one that i got wrong, can someone explain how to do it the right way?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D. is 62 degrees.. it got cut off.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

did u solve x already, if so, wat did u get for x ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 62 as my answer. not sure about the steps. i did this a while ago.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think i tried adding both equations together to try to find x.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

okay, first we must solve x

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

since the altitude is also a perpindicular bisector, it is also an angle bisector. so left angle equals right angle 5x+3 = 2x+18 solving give u, x = 5

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

as usual, we're not after x we're after \(m \angle AZY\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

15+3=10+18 18=28

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh, ok

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

\(m \angle AZY = 2 \times (5x+3)\)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

plugin x value and simplify

OpenStudy (anonymous):

56

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2*25+3=53

OpenStudy (anonymous):

28+28=56

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

careful, paranthesis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep :I

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i messed up

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

good :) 56 is correct but do u understand why we took \(2 \times (5x+3)\) ? think about it when u have time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5(5)= 25. (25+3)=28. 2x28=56! :)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

thats right ! i was trying to ask a different question actually... but ok :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh :C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have time to think about it. x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh wow i read that completly wrong. no i dont know why we did that. i know how we did tho. xD

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

cool, it gets easy, if u see it urself, it oly complicates if i try and explain u

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahh. ok

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

il explain quick anyways :- here is the kwy : left angle equals right angle cuz ZB is also angle bisector

OpenStudy (anonymous):

o:

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

|dw:1379479593195:dw|

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

Also see that, AZY = left angle + right angle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

anndd...you lost me. x)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
