John, Cindy, and Larry all participate in different sports after school. One day, John told Larry, “My sport is tougher than yours, because we had to run three times as many laps as you did yesterday.” Cindy overheard the conversation and told John, “Well, we ran 5 more laps than you did, so my sport must be the toughest.” If Larry had to run 3 laps in practice, how many laps did Cindy run?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because it says 3 times......emphasis on the word times

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohhhhh, okay thank you very much !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no problamo

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it was worth it

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

hmm, john run "3 times" as Larry Larry ran 3, 3 x 3 = 9 Cindy run "5 more laps" than John well

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

if Larry ran "x" John ran 3x Cindy ran 3x + 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you mean it was worth it, and if you're saying five more laps and your saying he ran 9, that would be 14 laps she ran.?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

yeap John's difference is a product of Larry's Cindy's difference is a SUM to John's

OpenStudy (anonymous):

fuuuck i already turned it in saying 15, thank you though !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry it was 14 i must have miscalculated
