How to do base 10 logarithm of sq. root of 1000? explain

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the square root of 1000?

Fairly simple process wheat, the log function is already at base 10 (you can use a different base but things get a bit different when you do) So you're trying to compute log sqrt(1000) right? Well a thing about log functions is that whatever power it's raised to comes down and multiplies. The square root function is really just a variable to the 1/2 power. x^(1/2) (Try it in your calculator if you're not sure) So the 1/2 moves in front and multiples into log 1000. Well that answer is 3. So 3 * 1/2 = 3/2 =)
