Solve the compound inequality. Graph the solution. –2 ≤ 2x – 4 < 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-2 <= 2x - 4 -2 + 4 <= 2x 2 <= 2x 1 <= x 2x - 4 < 4 2x < 4 + 4 2x < 8 x < 4 1 <= x < 4 are you using a number line ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, and I am not number line smart lol

quick lesson : if there is an equal sign, use a closed circle. if there is no equal sign, use an open circle. (<) less then means shading to the left (>) greater then means shading to the right. so we have 1 <= x.....closed circle on 1, shading to the right and x is less then 4....open circle on 4, shading to the left so it will be closed circle on 1, open circle on 4, shading in between.

Oh! Ok, thank you. I'll have to make note of this now.

any questions ?

also, when you have compound inequalities, I usually separate them, like I did above, and solve it that way. To me, it is easier
