I'm using my math lab and the question is "graph the inequality x>=6. I know that I just replace the greater than or equal to sign with an equal sign and just graph a vertical line, but My Math lab wont let me just graph the vertical line. Am I missing another ordered pair? If so, how do I get it? TIA!
any point on the line x = 6 will be of the form (6, y) basically the x coordinate is always 6 and y can be any number you want
so a few points on this line are (6,0), (6,3), (6,13), (6, -2), etc you only need two to graph a straight line, so pick any two you want
because the inequality sign has an "or equal to" part, we make the boundary line solid and because there's a "greater than" in the inequality sign, we shade to the right of this solid boundary line
Ah, I see now. Would I do the same if it was Y >= 6?
sorta, but now all points on y = 6 have a y coordinate of 6, so points like (0,6), (1,6), (2,6) etc are on this line the line is still solid, but you're shading above the line now
Awesome! I get it now. Thanks so much for your help.
you're welcome
