Can anyone explain this?

\[2(\frac{ 9 }{ 4 })+8\] \[=\frac{ 25 }{ 2 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For 2(9/4), you simply multiply 2 by the numerator (9) to get 18/4. You can simplify this to 9/2. Then in order to add the 8, change it to a fraction (8/1). You must have the same denominator for this to work, so multiple both numerator and denominator by 2 to get 16/2. Now add the two numerators together (9+16) and you end up with 25/2.
