proof, need help getting started

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if a,b,c are real numbers,a does not =0, b< 0 and b/2 < sqrt(ac), then the quadratic equation ax^2+bx+c=o has no real solution.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

The discriminant is: \(b^2 - 4ac\) If the discriminant is negative, there is no real solution. The discriminant is negative if the inequality \(b^2 - 4ac < 0 \) is true. \(b^2 - 4ac < 0\) \(b^2 < 4ac\) Divide both sides by 4: \( \dfrac{b^2}{4} < ac \) If \(\dfrac{b}{2} < \sqrt{ac}\) there is no solution.

^there is no _real_ solution
