OpenStudy (awkwardpanda):

Solve each inequality. Graph solution. 1. -4(3x+2) >= 16 2. 3<5x - 2<7

OpenStudy (psymon):

Having trouble with both parts or anything in specific?

OpenStudy (awkwardpanda):

I'm having trouble solving as well as graphing /:

OpenStudy (psymon):

Gotcha. Okay, so #1. The first part -4(3x+2) Do you know how to multiply that out or what to do with it?

OpenStudy (awkwardpanda):

So i multiply -4 to 3x and 2, right?

OpenStudy (psymon):

Right. Think you can do that part?

OpenStudy (awkwardpanda):

Sure, I'll try. so it would be -12x and -8. right?

OpenStudy (psymon):

Right :3 \[-12x - 8 \ge 16\] So now we need x by itself. So you would add 8 to both sides. That gets rid of the 8 on the left and moves it to the right. Think you got that?

OpenStudy (awkwardpanda):

SO it would be -12x - 8 + 8 \[-12x-8+8\ge16+8\]

OpenStudy (psymon):

Right. So that means we have \[-12x \ge 24\] So now we have two options. We can divide both sides by -12, but we must remember thatif we divideor multiply by a negative, we must flip the inequality. If we're scared about forgettingto flip it on accident, we have this option:

OpenStudy (psymon):

|dw:1380343073023:dw| works either way. This way is more steps, but you avoid negatives.
