c=1/2*b*h solve h

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Well you have h on the right side. Now you want to leave ONLY h on that side. So you have to get rid of the 1/2 and b. So you divide both sides with b and 1/2. What do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry I still don't understand

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Okay see now you have \[c=\frac{ 1 }{ 2 }bh\] You want to solve for h. So what you want is some equation h=something. To do so, you need to get rid of the 1/2 and b on the right side. Since 1/2 and b are multiplied to h, to get rid of them you have to divide by themselves. So you will divide both sides with 1/2 and b.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would it be c divided by 1/2 divided by b

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Yes :) What do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

C/1/2/b?

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Well how do you write that though? Hint: What does dividing by a fraction mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That is what I don't get

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Ah okay so when you divide by a fraction for example \[a \div \frac{ b }{c}\]it is the same and can be written as \[a \times \frac{ c }{ b }\] Here your fraction is 1/2. What does that mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would it be written 2a/b

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Yes but your b is 1 see? So it would just be 2a :) So when you divided c by 1/2 and b in your question, what can it be written as?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is the answer 2c/b

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Yup :)
