How would you solve 10-3x+x^2-6x by factoring? Thanks.

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well it needs to be equal to something before you can solve it... and I can't see an equals sign

Combine like terms and rearrange in order by decreasing exponents. x^2-9x+10 = 0 You need 2 factors of 10 whose sum is 9. the sign (here "-") between the squared term and the x term tells you that the bigger of the 2 factors will get this sign. the "+" sign means you need the same signs. 2 factors of 10 whose sum is 9. you cant factor this. so you will need to use the quadratic formula for this problem.
