Elena __________ morena.

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

So, this is the translated question: Elena _____ dark skinned. So it obviously would be "is", right? In Spanish, there are different ways to say is: yo soy - I am Tu eres - You (informal) are Usted es - You (formal) are Ellos son - They are Nosotros somos - we are Ustedes son - You guys are So, I know this is "are", but would you say: So you know that you are talking about Elena, not yourself, not thos guys, not them, Elena. Since it would be either eres or es, it would be safer to put "es" because "es" is the formal way. So... Elena es morena. Hope I helped. *morena, even though it usually means someone is dark-skinned, it is the polite way to say someone is dark skinned, unlike in english, the polite way would be to say someone is afro-american, haitan, etc..., but in Spanish it could also mean that you are dark skinned after that tan (ese tan te puso morena!). Just to clarify. :-)
