This question is seemingly simple but is confusing me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here is my question: Dana picks strawberries to sell and placing them in baskets on a table. The number of strawberries in the basket is 4 more than the number of baskets on a table. If b represents the number of baskets on each table, which expression can be used to represent the number of strawberries on 5 tables? The sentence "The number of strawberries in the basket is 4 more than the number of baskets on a table." For some reason just throws me off, or maybe it's the last sentence idk. But I've tried rewording the problem in my own words to make it make more sense but still I'm a little fuzzy. However, I've come to think my answer should be baskets*4 but none of my answers have that. So I'm choosing option B as my best but I'm not sure. Here are my options: 5b^4 5(b+4) 5b(b+4) 5 b+4 please please please EXPLAIN the answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just posted this on yahoo answers and one person said the answer is option C but they did not explain whyyyyyy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont wanna just post my questions online and get answers thats cheating. i wanna learn and understand why

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b = number of baskets on each table there are 5 tables so it would be 5b now number of strawberries would be 4 more than the number of baskets on A table meaning per table which is (b) number of strawberries then is (b+4) So there are 5 tables and 5b is 5 tables times the number of baskets per table then we multiply this by the number of strawberries per table which is (the number of baskets plus 4 MORE (b+4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you understand now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah so it would be 5*b(b+4) because we need to multiply the baskets by the table and we need to add the baskets with the strawberries but need to also need to multiply 5b and b+4 together? no?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

id suggest forgetting that someone said the answer is C ....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I wuold pick C yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what why @amistre64

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if you are trying to conform the results to a preconcieved answer ... you will almost always go down the wrong path

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but it is c

OpenStudy (amistre64):

Dana picks strawberries to sell and placing them in baskets on a table. The number of strawberries in the basket is 4 more than the number of baskets on a table. s = b+4; this is the number of strawberries per table If b represents the number of baskets on each table which expression can be used to represent the number of strawberries on 5 tables? there are 5 tables: 5(b+4) would be the total number of strawberries.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

miszery said c though

OpenStudy (anonymous):

even though I did tihnk it was that answer first

OpenStudy (amistre64):

so, what if miszery had said A?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i might have read it a bit wrong as well ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh my god

OpenStudy (amistre64):

each basket contains (b+4) strawberries the are b baskets per table: b(b+4) strawberries ber table 5 tables 5b(b+4) ; now i agree :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol :D word problems is my weakness too, it you havent said C I would have taken longer to think about it hehe

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep it makes the most sense the more I think about it. thanks guys

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yw :) ty too

OpenStudy (amistre64):

good luck ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer 5b(b+4) was correct yayyy
