Ok, well first we have to multiply 6 by 40 to get the pay for the first 40 cars. We get what?
Is it C? I got C by multiplying £6.00*4=£240 and then since it said that "50%" his pay increases, I decided to multiply 9*8=72. Since 1/2 of 6 equals to 3, I figured that I should just add £6+£3=£9. And so £240+£72=£312.
240 + 72 is 312 so yes, you are correct.
To get 50% of 6 you can just multiply it by 0.5
