i need help asap

OpenStudy (anonymous):

with what

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[y \le \left[ 3x \right]+1\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what are you solving for?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y and x i have to graph the absolute value inequality

OpenStudy (anonymous):

substitute?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah substitute x for 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

try to get x by itself

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would it look kinda like this \[y \le 3\left[ x \right]+1\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no... \[y-1 = \left[ 3x \right]\] know that absolute value gives you positive and negative values \[x = \frac{ y-1 }{ 3 }\] so x equals positive and negative (y-1)/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

try graphing the parent function and then the original function Parent function is: \[y = \left[ x \right]\] the Original function is:\[y = \left[ 3x \right]+1\] your graph is going to horizontally shrink by 3 and move up 1 on the graph

OpenStudy (anonymous):

go down 3 over 1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

noooo, the 3 is inside the absolute value, so the graph is going to horizontally shrink and go up 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the blue line is the parent function so you can see what your function was based off of and the green line is your original function, you can see how it horizontally shrunk closer to the y-axis and it was moved up 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hoped that helped!! :p
